August 13th Meeting at Creeping Thyme

Our August 2012 meeting took place at Creeping Thyme in Buxton.  Marie & Tim Clements gave us all a guided tour of their barns, milk room and cheese rooms.  Then they spread out a feast of cheeses and fudges from their amazing array of products.  Those little goats sure work hard!

Eric Rector and Heather Donahue both gave excellent  presentations  about their experiences at the recent American Cheese Society meeting and Traktec’s Donna Murray was on hand to tell us about their Maine -based label manufacturing company.

Looking for Goat Milk Near Brunswick

Looking for a licensed goat milk source for next season. My current source has regrettably decided to call it quits.

Know of anyone within 40 or 50 miles of Brunswick? Please let me know.

Visit our farm at our new location and sample our fresh and aged cheeses. All our cheeses are made with fresh milk from our own Nubian goats and with the delicious, organic milk from the Jersey cows at our partner farm, Clovercrest. We are two family farms working together with a passion and dedication to our animals and the milk they provide. Meet the cheesemakers and the goats (the true artisans) of Olde Oak Farm.

Flying Goat Farm produces small hand-crafted batches of fresh chevre in several varieties, as well as feta.  We are also known to occasionally make goats’ milk yogurt, and sweet chevres for special occasions.  We strive to manage our small herd of (spoiled) Nubian dairy goats with a primarily natural and holistic approach and it is important to us to know each animal as an individual.  Simply put, we believe that tasty cheese comes from happy and healthy animals!

Available At:

  • Sanford Farmers’ Market
  • On site or by delivery by appointment only.

Guild Holiday Party

holidaytomme_stackDecember 14th Holiday Party at Liberty Fields Farm, Saco where it was —

Holiday Tomme!

What a great event.

Besides the warm and spirited hosting by Liberty Fields Farm, our Holiday Party featured seven different Tommes made from the same recipe but each bearing the flavor, milk type, local flora and personality of the cheesemakers around the state. There were hard and soft pate’s, there were buttery and silky textures, there was “goaty” and “cow-y” and complex flavors — sometimes all in the same cheese (Appleton Creamery brought a triple-milk version). There was also bright red local membrillo to accompany the panoply of personal cheeses. It was a lesson about how much of the local cheesemaker goes into making their cheese.

fresh and aged goat cheeses

In 2004, York Hill Farm celebrated its twentieth year of producing farmstead fresh and aged goat cheeses! Fresh cheeses are produced in plain or herb varieties, including our beautiful Chevre Roll with a swirl of dill or peppercorns. Capriano is our unusual and distinctive dry-aged goat cheese. This cheese combines a slightly sharp goats milk character with sweet caramel-like tones. Wheels are aged in their natural rinds for up to a year in our cheese cellar.

York Hill Farm cheese available from the farm and at specialty stores throughout New England

Product sold: retail, wholesale, on site.
