MINUTES of MEETING
MAINE CHEESE GUILD
February 19, 2007

Location: Hahn’s End (Deb Hahn) Phippsburg

A brief meeting was conducted prior to a presentation by Peter Dixon on Farmstead Cheese Risk Reduction Project.

Appropriation Committee hearing concerning request for additional dairy inspector discussed. Eight members of the guild went to the hearing and gave testimony to the committee. Favorable response in the press and by others who attended the meeting was noted.

Funding for American Cheese Society competition sponsorship: Proposal being drafted and will be sent to Ag Dept.

Brochures: Need for new survey of producers

Maine Ag Day March 20. Donations of cheese needed. Drop off at State of Maine Cheese company and Cathe will shuttle it to Augusta.

Beginners workshops: Morris Farm with Caitlin Hunter of Appleton Creamery April 28 & 29

Home Garden and Flower Show at Fryeburg Fairgrounds May 19: Cathe will be doing a cheese making demo. There will be tables available for those cheese makers wishing to sell product throughout the day.

Maine Celtic Celebration Cheese Roll in Belfast July 19-22. Donation of (4) 7.5lb wheels of cheese needed. Also vendor space for selling. Contact Terri Mahoney 207-338-0484.

Need for form on website for "request for cheese donations"

US Dairy Conference at Samoset Resort in Rockport in June. Would like to purchase Maine cheese for conference attendee "gift baskets" More info on guild website.

Treasurer’s Report shows a balance of 9085.99

The ACS conference will have a "meet the cheese maker" room with tables for your displays and cheeses for 100.00. The deadline for sign up is March 16.

Winner of the "door prize" 2.5 lbs of cheese wax-Sandy Vogels

Meeting adjourned. Next meeting April 2. Meet at 10:00 at the Cheese Iron in Scarboro.
